Liminal Dimension: Preparing for Your 2013 Epiphany

  • Christine Lancaster
  • ABA Insider, ABA Insider

On this ultimate day of 2012, and in preparation for 2013, take some time to listen to this beautiful Dougie MacLean rendition of Scottish poet Robert Burns’ famous poem, Auld Lang Syne (1788).

An epiphany is a sudden realization of something as the result of an experience. Historically, Epiphany refers to the twelfth day of Christmas (January 6) when the Magi, or Wise Men, visited Immanuel. These wisest of men literally had an “epiphany” based on the object of their hope. They experienced a shedding of light on their encounter with this unique enfleshment of spirit.

Where might you find your epiphany for 2013?

New Year’s Eve offers a great liminal dimension, or doorway, to consider:

  1. In what have you grounded your hope in 2012?
  2. What were your great moments in 2012? Whom did you share those with?
  3. Can you continue in that same hope in 2013?
  4. With whom or where else might you go to share that “cup of kindness” in 2013?
