“The Right Stuff: Keys for Your Business, Part IV” Better Learn to Dance: Less Chaos, More Success

  • Christine Lancaster
  • ABA Insider, ABA Insider

Think of the Saturn V picture as a symbol of how your business can hold together three disparate keys: purpose, plan and power.

We cannot imagine a world where men did not walk on the moon in 1969. But were there not the purpose set forth by President John Kennedy, nor the detailed plan developed and executed by NASA, nor the combustive power of financial capital and human capital all working together, it would not have happened.

Busy business owners often find themselves careening from one crisis or challenge to the next one so that purpose becomes a plaque on the wall, their plan gathers dust on the shelf, and power is drained by weak cash flow or employee turnover.

But instead of thinking of these factors as three discrete keys, what if you could view these keys as a single well-choreographed dance?

The word “choreograph” is built on a Greek  word “choreisis” which means to give way or to make room. There is a related word, “perichoresis”, which perfectly captures how one might bring the three keys to business into a dance. “Perichoreisis” refers to the relationship among the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit. It is a dance of the Three where there is a unified interplay of the three where no one dominates and each gives way to the other. The three shed light on, glorify, the other in virtuous cycle of abundant self-giving.  This picture of a waterwheel tells their story:

Focus purpose, business planning, strategic power
The power of the water flowing from bucket to bucket, making room for the other, provides the momentum to keep the wheel turning. Thinking of the relationship between purpose, plan, and power of your business as a dance will help you keep all three working together simultaneously to create a true Cash Cow that Improves Quality of Life®.
